Haircut to Covet: Gwyneth's Long Bob

By , About.com GuideMay 20, 2008

Follow me on:

Ok, forget Reese's bangs, now I want to grow them out and get Gwyneth Paltrow's sophisticated long bob, which she showed off today in Cannes. Bobs are hot, but this longer version is terribly sexy and simple. She parts the hair in the middle and the cut is at an angle -- a tad shorter in back than in front. Her naturally wavy hair is then flat-ironed to sleek perfection.

What you need for this look:

1. A large, rounded brush (don't curl the ends too far under, lest you end up looking like an 80's throwback).
2. A decent flat iron.
3. A gloss spray for after you iron. Bumble and Bumble discontinued their Gloss (why? why?), but their new Shine spray gets high marks in the industry

Great catch on Gwyneth’s new bob hairstyle. I’m loving it as well! It’s such a nice change from all that long hair she had.

As a quick tip for your readers–if you want to create this style but have naturally wavy hair you might want to invest in a straightening product to help get rid of curls during the blow drying stage.

I reviewed AG’s Set It Straight and was really pleased with the results.

Great post!

Rather than a comment, I have a question. How difficult would it be for Gwynneth to pull this back if she needed or wanted to. Does the fact that it’s cut slightly shorter in the back make it impossible, or messy, to put up?

Gwyneth pulls her hair back with this cut quite easily.

I really don’t like it and don’t understand why so many people do, she does not look good.

Could this cut be worn curly? Not like poodle perm or tight curls but more-than-just-waves curly.

Absolutely it can!

Eh, bobs like this tend to make the neck appear longer… in her case, she already seems to have a long neck. Leaves her looking like a bleached out giraffe, if you ask me. Great hairstyle, just not for her. The highly textured look makes it look coarse and matted, to me.
