The One Beauty Trick You Should Teach Your Daughter(s)
Monday April 21, 2008
If I had to give advice on the one beauty trick we should all pass down to our children, it would not be to curl your lashes (by the way, you can curl lashes after you apply mascara, just let lashes dry first and be extra gentle). It would not be "Thou Shalt Play Up Either the Eyes or the Mouth" (a very, very good rule if I say so myself). And while it's important to keep your nails all one length and painted in a classic, not too outrageous manner, that's really a matter of opinion (and boy do I have an opinion on that topic). The single most important beauty trick every person should pass on to their children (boys included) is this: Wear sunscreen every single day, no matter how cloudy it is.
Most wrinkles are caused by skin damage, and even worse, most skin cancers are as well. Skin cancer rates are rising due to the holes in the ozone layer. Teaching children proper sunscreen application is on par with teaching them to brush their teeth daily or wash their hands after they use the restroom. Remember, sunscreen must be reapplied on hot, sweaty days. And please, do not encourage your children to bake themselves in tanning sunbeds lest you don't mind them resembling beef jerky at age 70.

I totally agree on the use of sun screen. My daughter is 6 yrs old but I got to apply sunscreen on her since she was three
I completely agree about the sunscreen too! Maybe it is because skin cancer runs in my family, but I’ve always been vigilant about wearing sunscreen – and my favorite is also the number one choice listed at this blog, the La Roche-Posay Anthelios (it’s in the top three at 3Luxe too, you are in good company – http://www.3luxe.com/category/Health_and_Beauty/Sunscreen).
Ahhh, thanks Jacqueline!
Oh Definately…Dont leave home without applying it…Will pass that on….the 2nd…Curl those lashes…lol
I have always applied sunscreen. My friends and family always laughed and ridiculed me, but I kept on using it.
My MOST important beauty tip is Never, NEVER go to bed with make-up on! Even if you have been up and out on the town until 6:00 in the morning Take. Off. Your. Makeup!
dear Julyne, i’m a beauty profecional and attended the IBSNY at the javits center—-talk about nails to what LENGHS and COLORS oh my, actualy the whole show was exciting, great fantasy—thanks for all the good things you share. haydee
You are right on, as usual. Years and years ago when I was hairdressing, I preached the suntan lotion EVERY DAY to my clients. But of course years and years ago, they thought I was nuts. Hopefully, the general public has gotten the message.
As far as mascara, I have extremely oily skin around my eyes and have not found one that stays put. I haven’t tried Lancome’s yet, so that will be next and I’ll let you know.
Thanks,
Doreen
I was wondering if there are any recommendations for a facial moisturizer with sunscreen that is appropriate for young children (I have a 2- and 4-year old.) I hate the smell of the typical Coppertone, et.al., sunscreens. I personally use Neutrogena on a recommendation by my dermatologist years ago, but am wondering what to use for the children. Thank you!!
Wholeheartedly agree. I can cry when I see tiny kids all brown while their magazine engrossed mom’s puff away at their 15th Gaulois at 10AM- looking fine, no doubt -but kids should not be bronzed!
