My Least Favorite Spa Experience: Wraps

Sunday April 20, 2008
This spring I'm reminiscent of a week I spent last year at this time at Rancho La Puerta, a fitness spa in Baja, California. I spent a week hiking, exercising, swimming, playing tennis and getting loads of spa treatments. It was an amazing experience and I can't wait to do it again. The spa is paradise, but not too precious and uppity as spas can be. It was at this spa that I learned I love hot stone massage and I get too claustrophic for treatments involving wraps. I signed up for this and ended up wrapped tightly in hot sheets, mummy-style so I couldn't move my arms or legs. It was constricting and unendurable. I was miserable and couldn't wait for the 60 minutes to be over. I finally asked for my arms to be freed. The upside to all of this was my skin had never ended up so soft and supple.

If there's a treatment you can't stand, please weigh in below.

I once went to a natural spa and had a mask of milk, honey and cucumber. I like all those foods. But the smell on my face… I thought I would barf!

OMG, I can’t believe there is someone else who shares my feelings about wraps! I think I would pick virtually any other spa treatment over those.

ps. You have a stellar blog!

I agree!! I hate wraps, I had a seaweed wrap once and I couldn’t believe that I actually paid someone to paint me in green gunk and then wrap me in plastic wrap and heated blankets. I felt like a burrito.
