The Key to Eyeshadow: Blend, Blend, Blend
Friday January 11, 2008
Watching the pros on the "How to Do a Smoky Eye" videos on YouTube, I realized yet again the importance of blending eyeshadow. (I, by the way, have come to the sad realization that I do not wear a smoky eye well, even when the makeup is applied by a highly-paid makeup artist).
Start with a basic color on the main eye, then apply a darker shade to the crease. It's very important to use a proper eyeshadow brush (Sephora has a great variety at an excellent price) and blend, blend, blend so the darker shade doesn't look like a bruise and so both eyes match. If you applied too much to one side, wipe excess color off the brush by dabbing onto a tissue and continue to blend.

Blending is definitely key, but it is helpful to use a high quality, high pigment shadow to begin with!
For example, don’t you notice the difference between using Dior (or any of 3Luxe’s top three picks – http://www.3luxe.com/category/Makeup/Eye_Shadow) versus most drugstore brands? I definitely have a harder time making them them look good – they seem chalkier or something.
