More on Holiday Tipping
Thursday December 20, 2007
This month's O, the Oprah Magazine, mentions that adding an extra 5 percent on your regular tip should suffice for your stylist these holidays. Five percent is hardly anything, so I decided to search further on the O Website and found a 2004 article that states $20-$100 in a card is an appropriate gift.
Obviously, people can't agree on tipping a stylist for the holidays (see my post below on the expert suggestion to tip a an entire day's service, ouch!). While it's generally accepted you tip a nanny, personal trainer or dogwalker one week's worth of services, it's not clear among the experts how much to give your stylist. I think $20-$100 is the best advice I've seen yet.

5%? That is ridiculous! If your service is 100.00 then another $5 on top of your normal tip? Or how about a $30 cut. I would be embrarrased to give an extra $1.50! It would not even be noticed. A tip of $20 and up, is the norm for extra hoilday tipping, in a nice card.
