A Round-Up of the Latest Beauty News & Gossip
Sunday December 2, 2007
Here's what caught my eye over the past week:
Ever wonder about the lives of the immigrant women who dutifully scrape your feet, cut your nails and massage your back? New York Magazine gives us an in-depth peek into the spa industry's cheap labor, and it might have you reconsidering your favorite mani-pedi salon 'round the corner.
A year ago, I reported on Tyra Banks and how she looks without makeup. Now she's gone on TV to show herself sans weave and makeup. You gotta see it to believe it.
Glossed Over is a hilarious blog that skewers fashion magazines. Her latest: A pregnant Christina Aguilera on the cover of Marie Clare. I do love snark, even though I've noticed any time I include it in this blog, people write in with comments like, "You think you're so smart, but what you are is UGLY!" and then others are forced to comment, "Leave her alone, she is not ugly." Ahhh, the charmed life of a blogger.
Since I just got around to reading Allure's October issue (the piles of mags do tend to pile up), I was freaked out to read about the dangers of the trendy new Brazilian hair straigtening treatment, especially since I'd blogged about it's trendiness months before. What's worse, since the article came out, women signed up in DROVES for the treatment. What does that say about us?
