'Tis the Season: Photo Galleries of Updos

Friday November 23, 2007
With holiday parties around the corner, you may be at a loss with what to do with your hair when going from work straight to a party. Check out the dozens of photos within this holiday hairstyle photo gallery. I'm adding more galleries this weekend so be sure and bookmark it because there's more fun to come.

As a bonus, here are five fun tips I've collected over the years:

1. Short hair? Fake an updo with pincurls. To keep hair in place, you'll need lots of product and bobby pins. Use a styling mousse, blowdry, then curl hair around your finger fastening it with a bobby pin (a short-barrelled curling iron can get you started if you have stick-straight hair). Messy is OK, but we suggest practicing this one at home before trying it in the office bathroom.
2. Create a sleek 'do with a flat iron. You can bring the iron to work and run it over your straight hair just before you go out.
3. Uma Thurman's half-up/half-down look is very trendy this year. Wear your naturally curly hair curly to work then pin up and under. If you don't have natural curls, create them by sleeping in rollers the night before. Curl the front tendrils before stepping out. This is another one to practice first at home.
4. Messy buns are always sexy. Wear hair down for work. After work, spritz hair with a styling spray then wrap hair into a bun low on the nape of the neck. Make sure it's not too perfect, otherwise you'll risk looking like the movie version of a librarian. Wisk away short strands with a decorative bobby pin. Kid's versions are actually super cute on adults.
5. Wavy, beachy curls are out this holiday season, while softer waves are in. Create this look by rolling hair in huge, Velcro rollers, then brushing out and finishing with hairspray.
