Must-Have Mascara: Deep Purple or 'Aubergine'

Sunday October 28, 2007
My friend Janine came by after a random afternoon spent at the Yves Saint Laurent makeup counter at one of the B department stores here in NY (Bendel's, Bergdorf's or Barneys, I can't remember which). I was amazed at how soft and gorgeous her face looked done up in what she called "aubergine" colors. The deep purple eyeliner and mascara made her brown eyes seem tinted with green. According to Janine, the makeup artist told her she "always" uses aubergine on women with her eye color. I was pleasantly surprised, as I've read deep purple looks best on green and blue-eyed women. Seems we can all wear it!

Dr. Hauschka makes an aubergine mascara (buy it here) as does LORAC (buy it here). Photo of LORAC Lashes Mascara, courtesy Pricegrabber

I recently posted about this very subject! Mascaras with a hint of color are such an excellent way to brighten the eye. If you’re interested in reading the feature, click HERE. I wrote about 7 different brands in three different colors! -Raging Rouge

I love the idea of new colors to try! I currently use navy blue with matching liner on the lower lid. I will be looking for the new color next shopping trip! Would any stores in Northern CA carry it?

Hi Joyce, many beauty brands have a deep purple option, so yes, you’ll be able to find “aubergine” or other wilder colors in Northern CA (a fabulous part of the country). I’d drop by a Sephora if there’s one around you (San Fran most definitely has Sephoras). — Julyne
