I'm back on Retin-A after a couple years off, not because I have acne, but because I love how Retin-A makes my skin look and feel so great after just a couple weeks of use. Retin-A, you'll recall, was THE pimple medicine of the 90s, before Accutane took over. Dermatologists have known the anti-aging benefits of Retin-A for years and many skincare experts (who have their own lines, mind you), swear vitamin A is their secret weapon when it comes to their own skin care.
Some bits about Retin-A and other anti-aging products:
1. It's best to use Retin-A under the guidance of a dermatologist. Here in the U.S., it's not an over-the-counter product. Yes, I have to say this, even though I get the stuff over-the-counter in Mexico.
2. You will peel. My skin is currently peeling in patches, a minor annoyance in my quest for dewy, youthful skin. This is typical the first two weeks with Retin-A.
2. Gotta wear sunscreen. Skin is extra-sensitive to the sun. You have to very careful to stay out of the sun when on Retin-A.
3. Stick with it. Many women abandon skincare regimens because they can't stand the redness or peeling and think it's not working.

Aloette is the best! I’ve used them all. You can get them by e-mailing this consultant at ParadiseStar143@yahoo.com She’s great!
is it ok to use retin a under the eye for wrinkles?
The other trick with anti-wrinkle regimens is that many require a bit of time to work. For example, many anti-wrinkle creams use peptide complexes that take 6 or more weeks to start showing results. Other products offer the best of both worlds — I love Daily Frost, which works quickly (you can see results in minutes), though for long-lasting results you have to use regularly. You can find it at GNC (I think) and at brandalternative.com.
I have been an esthetician since 1997. I’ve seen too many faces that have been over exposed to prescription strength peeling agents. Many doctors dole them out to anyone it seems, which is extremely careless at best. They cause hyperpigmentation, thinning of the skin, redness — and not just temporary redness in some cases — not to mention the scaley, peeling, blotchiness during the course of use. These products are ACNE treatments and should not be used as anti-aging treatments in the prescription strength. There are vitamin C serums (Cellex-C) that reverse sun damage, reverse wrinkles and do not cause harm, in fact they repair as well as protect the skin. You can also find retinol creams that are much more suited towards anti-aging that will not damage your skin like the prescription strength ones do.
Marie, I agree with you…to a point.
Yes, retinoids are not for everyone. Yes, they can cause redness and irritation for those with sensitive skin. Yes, doctors should not prescribe them to just anyone and certainly some doctors are careless.
But retinoids in prescription strength can be absolutely fantastic for anti-aging. I’ve had absolutely amazing results on Retin-A and I’ve done much research on it over the years and many of the most reputable dermatologists agree it can be — for some women — almost a miracle product. There are very, very few products that can be touted as such, but I’m a big fan of retinoids.
I used prescription retinols for several years. I found that I was often irritated and I spent most of the time peeling. A friend recomended a great line that gives me the best of both worlds. I use pH Advantage, it is designed by a plastic surgeon. I switched out my prescription for the Vitamin A Polypeptide lotion. My skin is smoother and clearer and I don’t have any irritation. I purchased my first one while on vacation in Las Vegas, but I now get it through pHadvantage.com.
OMG! I use pH Advantage too! I just love it. I am an esthetician and have seen too many clients overdo Retin A. The pH advantage products are effective yet gentle. I have yet to find anything else like them on the market. I also like True products as well, but they are not quite as strong as the pH Advantage products
