How to Apply Liquid Eyeliner
Tuesday August 7, 2007
This month's InStyle Makeover issue has a great tip on how to apply liquid eyeliner from makeup artist Colleen Creighton. (I actually knew about this trick and included it in my "dramatic eye" part of this eyeliner article). Creighton suggests using a liquid liner with a felt tip and lining from the middle of the lashline outward. Then finish the line from the inner corner of the eye to the middle.

so stupid of her to give this tip!!! what is so great about this tip??!!!!??
I don’t normally make comments on web sites, but this one goes out to Sam. You are quite rude, Sam. First of all, what gives you the right to call anyone “stupid?” Second of all, I found the tip very useful(and I’ve been putting on makeup for many years). Not only that, but, I’m sure there are many young teen and preteen girls, who are reading this tip, who have no idea how to apply eyeliner. Finding out, on their own, the correct ways to apply makeup can save these girls from a lot of unnecessary and hurtful criticism by some of their insensitive peers. Sam, I think you should apologize.
I for one never thought of applying eyeliner like that…I am going to try it! It is a great idea! Thank you! Also I agree with Patricia, Sam shouldn’t have said that…maybe Sam is a male?
GREAT TIP. I ALREADY USE THE FELT EYELINER, NOW WILL TRY IT THIS WAY. SAM NEEDS TO GET A LIFE AND NOT BE SO RUDE
I HAVE HAD LIQUID EYE LINER FOR YEARS, THROWN IT OUT COZ I HAVE BEEN SCARED TO PUT IT ON COZ I DONT KNOW.iT SMUGES EVERYTIME I TRY. THANKS
I have not been pleased with “pencil” liners. However, my numerous attempts to apply liquid liners have not been very successful. I usually end up with it smudged all over my lids. I tried this technique last night and had great success. Thanks for the tip!
I’ve always used pencil liners for the simple fact that i dont know how to apply the liquid one’s…but with this tip ..i will try it
Is there any other way? The rule is always to start application where you want the heaviest amount deposited, pencil, eyeshadow, powder, etc….Thanks for the reminder, as a makeup artist it is always good to review the obvious…..
Yes, the felt tip applicators on liquid eyeliners work better than those flimsy brushes. The thin, soft brushes are so flimsy and hard for most people to use. The firm, felt tip works best for just about everybody. I like Almay’s Intense i-color liquid liner in pearl black. Easy to use, and a nice color too. However Physicians Formula’s Felt-tip marker pen isn’t such a good product. The ink seems to dry up fast, so before long, it’s useless, and it’s not as easy to use.
Well, it seems that Sam is a little behind the times. Liquid eye liner has become more popular, as of late. I DO think it has it’s advantages. (no smudges)
And if Brad Pitt’s attraction to Angelina Jolie may have at first been based on looks only, her use of liquid eye liner sure didn’t hurt!!!
It doesnt workvery well. U could only put in on the top. I am emo, and a rocker i thought i can out it on the bottom u cant.
Since it was coming more popular, i went out and bought some of wet and wilds mega liner in black. it is a brush and i find it very hard to apply. i think i will take lees advice and go out and buy some of almays liner instead.
This has actually helped me quite a bit, I just recently bought liquid because my pencils kept going blunt and I was wasting money.. But I’m going to start to try this tip more often I think it would really help most girls expecially around my age. Thanks for the tip! x
Yeah, sam you are verry rude. If you dont like the tip, find another one. okay- you dont have any right to call her stupid. This tip does com in handy for MANY people Especially teens just begining to wear it.
sam u suck!! ha!!
uuhh “that one chick” ur bieng a bit rude too
I actually find using a brush instead of a sponge easier to use on liquid…maybe because I got used to it before I tried a sponge…
