It's a huge beauty myth that women can't wear their hair long after age 40. Some of the most beautiful women in the world still have long hair past the age of 6o. How long you wear your hair has little to do with age and a lot to do with face shape and texture of hair (women with super curly hair tend to look better with longer hair -- short hair tends to get too fluffy). Hair that stops between the chin and the shoulders tends to be most flattering on older women, while hair that grows past your chest looks tacky on almost everyone. For all of you about to hit the "comment" button, note that there are women who look incredible with extremely long hair, although I can't think of a single one off the top of my head.

I am 43 and a few years ago, I decided to grow my hair long. It finally reached my shoulders and I thought let me try to grow it longer..I did and your comments were right. I am 5′2 and everyone said, “You have the type of hair that looks good long.” Although it made me look older, so I got it cut shoulder length and then I felt like my hair had style, and I looked younger too. Actually the feedback I received was the same!

This is a great post! I just bought the Jessica Simpson curly hair extensions. At 53, they make me feel fabulous and I get compliments every where I go. That is so silly the way my mother used to tell me that I could wear my hair long until around 40.

western standards of beauty are just that.western standards.you only have to look at most indian actresses to find beautiful women with hair that is longer than average.are they considered tacky for this? on the contrary, they are well known for their beautiful long hair.Tacky indeed.

Yes, famous Indian actresses do tend to have long hair and are revered for it. In fact almost all actresses no matter their origin, have long hair. It’s only a matter of opinion, but I still think letting hair grow below the chest is too “Crystal Gayle” and verging on tacky.

It all depends on the individuals personality. Demi Moore, Sharon Stone etc
they are older and have long hair, so why cant ‘normal people’ choose to have
longer hair. Try on

temporary clip-in hair extensions
to determine if you will look good and
feel comfortable with long hair.

Long hair is tacky and cheesy. It reminds me of “trailer” people! You will never see a woman living in a trailer with cute, trendy, stylish hair!

I agree with a few of the comments made on here. Clip in hair extensions are ideal for all ages, and are perfect for taking in and out, as and when. There are loads of styles, lengths and colours too. Loads of the celebs do wear them these days to, so if they are good enough to wear them, then so are everyone else, regardless of age!
