Summer's Lasting Trend: Black Nail Polish
Tuesday September 12, 2006
Black nail polish was popping up all over the place this summer in New York. I'm still seeing it on the hottest women of the moment, including the red carpet at the VMAs. This summer it looked spectacular with all-white frocks. For fall, I'd pair it with tan for day, denim for weekend and anything NOT black or busy for night (you don't want to look Goth or overdone). Remember, black nail polish is like that one huge ring or that outrageously wacky necklace. You need only one fabulous accessory at at a time. I found this fun article from July's New York magazine on the history of black nail polish. Its history spans China dynasties, to Freddie Mercury, to fashion runways, to David Beckman and ending with Lindsay Lohan. Check out her chewed off look here.

Julyne, do you mean my black toenail is fashionable? Or is it only for fingers…and only if it’s nail polish? Well, at least once I’m done with marathon season I can paint them all black and pretend it is fashion.
The ONLY Seller on Ebay that has the REAL LIMITED EDITION CHANEL BLACK SATIN NAIL POLISH #219 is a Seller called “LUXECLOSET”… She apparently sells to celebrities on the East and West coast who couldn’t get in on the deal while they were still selling in stores… I bought TWO from LUXECLOSET on Ebay and they are authentic, and fabulous!!
It’s David Beckham, not David Beckman. His wife Posh often sports black nails as well.
I have seen recently on tv,actresses paiting only 9 fingernails, and leaving the index empty. Does this have a meaning? for example the actress playing Kate Roberts, Days of Our Lives, does this.
Is it the right index? Sometimes, I don’t paint that one because it’s my guitar strumming finger. Polish wears off very fast. Maybe she’s a player.
Tonya, i actually noticed Kate’s nail polish but on one nail - right index finger. that is how i got here, i google to see if it had any meaning.
I have always wondered what the deal was with her nail polish too!
