Don't Overload Makeup in Summer
Thursday June 15, 2006
One of the biggest mistakes a woman can make is to wear too much makeup. especially in summer when the heat can melt away eyeshadow & foundation. But too much makeup can actually add 10 years to a person. You know the look: Pancake foundation, clown-ish blush & tarantula eyelashes, the black eyeliner a half an inch thick. We believe that in summertime the average woman needs only:
1. Sunscreen (our pick: La Roche Posay)
2. A concealer for undereye circles & blemishes
3. A tinted moisturizer (our favorite: Bobbi Brown)
4. Mascara (Lancome rules)
5. A light colored lipstick or gloss
6. Soft eyeshadow shades for nighttime
7. Self-tanner (we prefer Clarins)
Depending on your skin color, you might not need blush in the summertime. These are just the basics -- add a shimmery bronze for your 'T-spot' & a spritz of a light fragrance & you're good to go. What do you think? Let us know in the comment box below.

I agree with you, but you can get away with even less maekup than that. I usually out on a thick layer of sunscreen to every oart of my body beaing exposed to the sun, wear for it to sink in and than just conceal away any blemishes I might have, if any.
The thing is that I rarely take down my sunglasses in the summer, so noone will ever notice I’m not wearing mascara, right?
A little bit of concealer and some tinted moisturizer?? And if your skin’s tone and texture is pretty blotchy and uneven because you went through some kind of hormonal curse in your mid twenties, then what? Because I can tell you, a dab of concealer and some tinted moisturizer isn’t enough coverage.
LOL! If you have bad skin, then by all means cover up. But if your skin is clear, you don’t need a full coverage foundation.
Wonderful for the young with wonderful skin ( the same ones used for ” anti-aging” models ( give me a break). How about for the 60+ group who need that foundation to “even out” and just look better? ( ps. a very light brush of loose powder helps to keep the ” melt down” from happening as quickly.
Use Bare Minerals with Mineral Veil. This does not melt in the heat. It stays on all the time and you can sleep in it.
geesh why not just get the tatoo makeup put on lol it will never fade away? but i`d just rather not wear any in the summer time. its easier and you get a nice tan. but it sounds good.
Ah…I’m a teenager, but I know a lot about makeup and stuff. Okay, for old-ish skin, you should use a primer, then a light layer of foundation mixed with moisturizer over it shall suffice. Spot-apply concealer over blemishes. Apply a thin layer of eyeliner, and spot-apply liner between lashes to skip mascara.
i do agree with every thing but why mascara because when you get hot and sweat runs down you re face black . So if i read this i would not ever agree with the mascara part.
Here’s some advice for you: Waterproof mascara. For older skin, yes, skin tone is of utmost importance. To even out skin tone, consider concealer and tinted moisturizer OR foundation. But instead of powdering your face all day, consider blotting papers. Mineral makeup is amazing for older skin. — Julyne
some people don’t wear sunblock or certain stuff just in the summer getting these tips will not help them to wear it beacause it will just get wet by the sweat and run down you’re face !!! this is a clue
um, i noticed bare minerals makes my face actually burn if i perspire, ouch, but the tinted moisturizers ans some light powder work. i use a light eyeshadow and mascara and everyone always says i look fresh and beautiful.
It’s called Bare Minerals. Cover up and moisturizer make your face blotchy and greasy. Just the thought of the nauseating smell of the chemicals on my face..yuck. I feel ugly without makeup, bare minerals works for me or there’s always sheer cover or even some drugstore brands of mineral makeup now. Waterproof mascara makes your eyelashes fall out.
Bare minerals is great for those of you wrinkle free 20 somethings. It settles into every fine line I have and makes them very obvious. No thanks! I use a good oil free foundation applied with a damp sponge and a good moisturizer and concealer.
“Only” seven items?! After applying all that the sun would have gone down.
I completely agree! I live in Miami where humidity is a force to be reckoned with! 5 seconds outside = sweat drenched face. I use a Sugar brand Bronzer and Shimmer Duo (I love it! Great for combating shiny/oily look you can get in the heat), MAC cover up (for those blemishes that need concealing), Flavored Lip Shine by Philosophy, Goldie brand Eye Shadow/Blush, MAC Eyeliner, and Mascara by Cover Girl. I also make a point to wash my face the minute I get home, or else you can get clogged pores and blemishes.
Cheers Ladies!
I think you are so right!!!! All I wear during the summer is lipgloss, sunscreen, self tanner and Mascara. The blush becomes unneeded because its so hot. I always hate it when people wear to much make up, including my mom. YOU should always have your makeup look natural, like it could happen without makeup, not fake like you have lots to hide on your face. I also hate thick eyeliner. Keep going girls!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think everyone should know their own skin, and you should wear whatever makes you feel good. The only person that matters is yourself, and you should never care what anyone else thinks about you. So if alot of make-up makes you happy, then I say go for it girl! If no make-up makes you happy, have at! And all in between!

I never go walking without a moisturiser with a sunscreen in it, plus a lipstick with a sunscreen in it. I don’t worry about the rest, leave that for afterwards.
